Steel Magnolia are a designer florist offering flowers for all occasions including Weddings, Birthdays, Funerals and Corporate Events, they also offer chair cover hire for all of these events.

The business was started by Sandra Wright in March 2009, Sandra had the experience of working in floristry but she had never tried running her own business so she contacted Business Doncaster to ask for support.

Sandra was first of all linked with a Business Buddy who looked at different ways in which they could help to improve Steel Magnolia. Sandra did not feel she had as much footfall as she would like. Her Business Buddy suggested that to raise the profile of the shop and to make people more aware of it, Sandra should start a website to promote her business.

Making use of some free workshops run the Business Buddies contract, Sandra was able to learn about Getting British Businesses Online (GBBO). GBBO allows small to medium size enterprises the opportunity to create a simple website and upload it on to the web and have it hosted for two years, completely free of charge.

Thanks to these workshops and the help of her Business Buddy, Sandra has seen an uptake in her business, so much so she has set on another member of staff to help her with the running of Steel Magnolia.

Steel Magnolia is now seeing an increase in customers and Sandra is looking at ways of developing the business. As well as flowers, the business now specialises in chair covers and also rents out vases for special occasions and can work on contract and corporate events.
