After being a full time stay at home mum for more than 8 years, remote from the world of going out to work, Jennifer Jones, from Arksey, was lacking in confidence and struggling with the idea of settling back in to working life.

Starting her own business and becoming her own boss provided Jennifer with the perfect answer to her problem. Jennifer took the decision to turn her hobby of designing artificial flower arrangements in to setting up a viable new business.

Following a telephone call to Business Doncaster, Jennifer was signposted to an Enterprise Coach who helped her develop her initial business ideas and started to turn them into reality.

Jennifer received assistance in helping to break down the initial barriers she was facing that were preventing her from getting her ideas off the ground, including the lack of confidence and low self esteem. Very quickly, progression was made and with the help of her Enterprise Coach, Jennifer was developing a business plan and investigating ways to market her business.

From the very beginning, Jennifer wanted to provide a service to her customers at a reasonable cost without them feeling “ripped off”. With help in forecasting and budgeting for the future, an essential exercise when starting a new business she was able to come up with a reasonable pricing strategy for her goods covering her income and expenditure ensuring the business would be sustainable and succeed.

Jennifer said: “My enterprise coach has helped me much more than I could have imagined. Not only has she been invaluable helping me with the business advice, she has also helped me to build my confidence and believe in myself.

“Thanks to the support from Business Doncaster, I now feel able to make Magical Stems a success and the initial feedback I have received on my products has been fantastic.”

Jennifer is already taking orders and is more than happy with the progression of the business so far, she is also considering taking on a part-time employee in the future. She has attended various wedding events to showcase her skills and promote the business. She has also been approached by a high street retailer and a number of wedding shops to work together in the future, something Jennifer is extremely excited about.
