Andrea had a very well paid job as a senior manager in the telecom’s industry and had worked her way up the career ladder over an 11 year period. She came to a point in her life where she was unhappy in her work on many levels and subsequently fell ill for a short period of time. She thought long and hard about what she wanted to do and realised she was the only one who could change the situation. Andrea resigned from her job and began training in the Beauty Industry and now runs a successful salon, attached to the side of her house.
“Some initially called it sheer madness doing what I did. I would call it a possible mid life crisis!? However I have never once looked back” says Andrea. “Yes I did have some hairy times financially, but with the love and support of my family I am living proof that money does not buy happiness. Go for your dreams, you really can achieve anything!” she added.
Andrea received advice and support through the Business Doncaster programme when she was starting out in business back in 2007 and has had ongoing help from the programme ever since! She is proof that with hard work and determination combined with the right help and advice, you really can achieve your dreams!
In addition to continuing to grow her business, Andrea is one of only 6 nail technicians, currently in the country to have gained ‘Premier Status’ with Calgel and she has continued her work with Calgel as a UK Educator attending Beauty Shows and carrying out demonstrations on behalf of the company. She also attends colleges to deliver Refresher/Advanced and Nail Art training to the College Lecturers. More recently, she has also been approached by Beaubronz to provide the same for their tanning products, after helping out tanning the Dancing On Ice Professional Dancers and Celebs!
“One thing is for sure, it is absolutely crucial that you spend time working ON your business as well as IN your business. So many people focus all their energy’s working in the business and fail to plan ahead or to see where things may be going wrong. It is all about looking further than the end of your nose! (Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail)” says Andrea
Andrea also firmly believes that one of the fundamentals of running a successful business, whether it is mobile or salon based is to have a clear business plan. If you do not know what you are aiming for how can you measure your success or learn from your mistakes? You will make mistakes, lots of them, but the key is to learn from them!
Andrea was approached and asked to deliver bespoke training at Champneys in Tring. This proved a great success and Andrea has been requested for further training opportunities at Champneys.
In the last few weeks Andrea won a competition after writing an article about her business for a specialist magazine. This has since been published as a full page article in the National Beauty Magazine called Scratch!
