Adored Accessories
Sue England and Yvonne Standidge share a passion for unusual, distinctive yet affordable jewellery, accessories and gifts. They found that buying from specialist boutiques was out of their price range so decided to set up their own business, Adored Accessories. Unique costume jewellery, evening bags, accessories and gifts are now accessible and affordable to everyone.
After suffering a stroke Sue founded her own company B-Jewelled and built up a reputation of sourcing unique yet affordable costume jewellery. The business was growing but needed extra help to develop. Yvonne also ran her own business, Vivaldi Exclusive Dressmaker but found that manufacturing dresses for several hours a day was affecting her back and arms and she needed to look at a change of career.
This change happened when Sue and Yvonne decided to join forces and became business partners, ‘Adored Accessories’ was born on the 1st November 2011.
Business Doncaster has proved to be a great help in supplying a business mentor to help and advise them further with their future business plans. Their mentor has also had an input into idea creations for further development of the business.
‘Adored Accessories’ have already attended several events to sell their products and have also sourced selective retail outlets to sell their products. Their products can be found in Posh Frocks at Epworth, Vintage in Sprotbrough, Perfect Day Bridal in Thorne, Refresh hairdresser at Dunscroft, Ramada Encore at Robin Hood Airport and Unshoesual in Warmsworth.
We asked Sue and Yvonne to share their experiences of being in business:
Who / what was your inspiration for starting in business?
We both love unusual jewellery and found boutiques too expensive.
What has been the biggest challenge for you?
Keeping track of our stock control database and updating the internet as we sell our items at events. We are overcoming this by having a shared virtual office.
What do you like most about being your own boss?
We like the freedom to decide where our business is going and being able to make it happen.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Take the plunge but get specialist help too from programmes such as Business Doncaster
Future plans, where do you see yourself and your business this time next year?
We would like to see the business expand in to retail premises and have agents working for us selling the products on a larger scale.
